UNLV Student Newspaper Advisory Board Agenda – 8/9/22

UNLV baseball signed six new players last week that will join the program in 2023.

Three players are from the Las Vegas valley, two are from Southern California and one is from Reno. UNLV recruited both of the top two players ranked in Nevada.

Coach Stan Stolte was impressed with the recruitment class that his staff signed.

“Very happy with this incoming class,” Stolte said in a release. “Recruiting coordinator Corey Vanderhook and associate head coach Kevin Higgins did a great job identifying the talented kids that fit well within the team culture we’ve created.”

The players from the Las Vegas Valley are pitcher LJ Mercurious, infielder Gunnar Myro and first baseman Easton Shelton.

Mercurious is a 6-foot-4 power arm pitcher who goes to Faith Lutheran High School. He is the top-ranked player in Nevada by Perfect Game.

Myro is the No. 2 ranked player in Nevada by Perfect Game and attends Bishop Gorman High School.

Shelton is a 6-foot-5 first baseman from Bishop Gorman that will add some pop to the UNLV lineup. As a junior, he led the state of Nevada in home runs and RBIs.

From up north, Pitcher Dylan Rogers comes from Reno. Rogers is a 6-foot-2 right-hander. Rogers is a two-way player at Damonte Ranch High School and plans to focus on pitching in college.

The two players coming from Southern California are infielder/catcher Ethan Bigani and pitcher Cardon Lane.

Bigani is the younger brother of UNLV alumni Eric Bigani. Eric was an All-Mountain West catcher in his time as a Rebel. Younger brother Ethan is a 5-foot-10 left-handed bat that attends Esperanza High School.

Lane is a 6-foot-2 right-hander that attends Huntington Beach High School.
